COVID-19 Visitor Policy

With the emergence of COVID-19 and the recent surge of the Delta variant around the nation, Avail Hospital has been proactively working to treat afflicted patients throughout the Lake Charles community. Our team has worked diligently to help patients recover from the virus, and have prepared some facts and resources to help prepare you and your family for your visit.

Visitor Policy (Effective August 25, 2021)

Due to the alarming increase in COVID-19 patients in Louisiana, Avail Hospital Lake Charles has instituted a visitor policy to allow patients to see their loved ones while minimizing the spread of the virus. Out of concern for our patients and staff, visitors who do not comply with this policy will be asked to leave the facility.

Emergency Room (ER) Visitors

Emergency Room patients are limited to one family representative per visit. Visitors will be asked to self-screen for symptoms of acute respiratory illness and COVID-19 prior to seeing the patient.

  • Although there is no time limit on a family representative’s visit, a patient’s designated family representative must remain the same during the entirety of the patient’s ER visit. No individual other than the patient’s initially designated family representative may visit the patient during their ER stay.
  • Visitors must stay only in the patient’s room and may not wander or travel to other locations in the facility other than those permitted by hospital staff.
  • Visitors must wear a mask at all times.

Inpatient Visitors

Inpatients are limited to one visitor per day. Visitors will be asked to self-screen for symptoms of acute respiratory illness and COVID-19 prior to seeing the patient.

  • There is no limit on a visitor’s time with a patient. However, only one visitor may accompany the patient at a time.
  • Visitors must stay only in the patient’s room and may not wander or travel to other locations in the facility other than those permitted by hospital staff.
  • Although this policy is meant to maximize our patients’ time with their loved ones, a visitor may be asked to step out of the room in extenuating circumstances. In the event that a visitor is asked to step out, we ask that they respect this to ensure the patient receives utmost attention by our care team.
